Scalable IoT Edge Architecture for TRICERA Energy
How MPOWR IT worked with TRICERA Energy to evolve its software team, IoT data flows and modular edge architecture for industrial battery storage systems.
Software development for connected battery storage systems
TRICERA Energy develops industrial battery storage systems designed to integrate with renewable energy generation. For the systems’ software to be developed and operated reliably, edge applications, data flows, infrastructure and collaboration within the development team have to work together.
As the project grew, requirements for team structure, technical decisions and manageable system complexity increased. MPOWR IT therefore supported more than individual implementations, combining team enablement, software architecture and infrastructure work.
What MPOWR IT delivered together with TRICERA
The collaboration covered organisational and technical building blocks that the team could apply immediately and continue to develop throughout the project.
Strengthening the software team and collaboration
- Support for the recruitment process to expand the software team
- Introduction of clear practices for meetings and task management
- Pair working and a Kanban-based project board
Making complexity visible and decisions traceable
- Visualisation of the software system and its components
- Structuring the system areas as a basis for prioritisation and project progress
- Documentation of key architecture decisions using Architecture Decision Records
- Use of project-specific fitness functions for continuous architecture validation
Developing a modular edge architecture
- Design and implementation support for a modular software architecture in Golang
- Configuration-based edge applications for different operating scenarios
- Training and implementation support for robust MQTT data flows in IoT edge applications
Building resilient data flows and infrastructure
- Design and implementation support for asynchronous time-series data synchronisation
- Edge-to-customer and edge-to-data-warehouse flows using ETL processes, custom data formats and fault-tolerant transmission
- Development of a Kubernetes-based high-availability infrastructure for the edge applications
What this case shows
In connected energy systems, software architecture, infrastructure and collaboration cannot be improved in isolation. Sustainable solutions emerge when technical standards are documented clearly, the team can apply them in everyday work and the platform is built around reliable data flows and resilient operations.
